Many times I have been too busy to sit down for lunch while bustling around cities going between meetings uptown, downtown, hither and yon. There are many restaurant choices, sit down service that will get you just about anything your gut desires. And sometimes nothing beats sitting down, being served, chatting, and unwinding. But the $2 hot dog (or is it $3 or $4 or $5 now? Inflation is roaring again) is the greatest productivity tool always available for the quick bite, end hunger and back to the grind schedule many of us thrive on. Nothing destroys a good work day more than sitting down for a gluttonous 2-hour lunch with appys. Nothing says "I know how to waste money and time" more than a drink mid-day with that lunch, even if it is sparking water. People laugh at the humble hot dog street grab and wolf, but for me it is the boost I need to get to the next big idea. The quick pizza slice is another good option, but I find it a bit harder to gulp down as quickly. And for some reason (maybe indigestibility?) it stays with me longer. While there are times to be pampered and delighted by luxurious dining, mid-workday is not the time. And there is plenty of time to eat well, and better and enjoy that level of hospitality and service after work. Great service can be a fast hot dog, with mustard offered as a free amenity.
